Music In Your Head 08

My last exhibition at Gallery Copenhagen was based around the theme of the Opera, Parsifal. Music is always informing my work because the stories in music and opera describe the stories and emotions of life. If all the scenes that we live in a day were given sound and melody what would your opera be? If a single thought of yours were given an instrument or voice, what character of sound would it make?

Paintings are silent but they can also be the visual transfiguration of sound and music. The themes in music may be given a physical shape in paint and the abstract nuances of sound colour may become real colour, in an infinite variety of transparencies and shades. A body of sound may take a figurative form and be placed on a canvas.

Similarly, characters in one’s own personal opera may come to life in a tangible way, be given their voices, their lines and form and exist independently on the painted surface. These paintings describe the scenes and thoughts, the possibilities and events, the dreams; the music in one’s head.
